Why is Own Source Revenue Portal Essential?

It's a powerful instrument to strengthen local governance, enhance transparency, boost revenue, and build self-reliant institutions that are capable of addressing local needs effectively.

01 Promotes Financial Self-Reliance of Local Bodies?

Local governments often rely heavily on state or central grants. An OSR Portal enables them to track, collect, and manage their own revenues (like property tax, fees, licenses, water charges, etc.). This helps reduce dependence on external funding and promotes financial sustainability.

02 Enhances Transparency and Accountability?

The portal digitizes revenue collection, making the process transparent and traceable. Reduces scope for manual errors or leakages. Citizens and auditors can easily view revenue data, enhancing public trust and institutional accountability.

03 Improves Revenue Collection Efficiency?

Automates billing, reminders, and payments. Facilitates online payment options for citizens, improving compliance and convenience. Helps local bodies increase their revenue base by identifying untapped sources.

04 Data-Driven Governance?

The portal provides real-time data and analytics on revenue trends. Helps in better planning, budgeting, and allocation of resources based on actual income. Enables performance tracking of individual PRIs/ULBs.

05 Encourages Responsible Local Governance?

When local bodies generate and manage their own funds, they become more responsible and responsive in spending. Encourages participatory governance, as citizens can see how their contributions are being used.

06Facilitates Monitoring by State and Central Governments?

Helps higher authorities monitor the revenue performance of local bodies. Supports interventions, incentives, and capacity-building for underperforming bodies.
